"Quirky, sexy and heartwarming-a story of love, forgiveness and what it means to be a family." Kate Moretti, New York Times bestselling author of Thought I Knew You

Meg Michaels, a bookstore owner, has already walked away from two cheating exes. She’s learned her lesson and has her mind set on success—until she gets knocked up. Embarrassed and unwilling to discuss her situation with friends and family, she wears layers to hide the pregnancy.

When Meg gets sick at a party, she’s mortified. Even worse, Theo Taylor, the guest of honor, discovers her secret. Theo, an Army medic wounded in the war, agrees not to reveal her condition, and the two forge a bond of friendship that blossoms into love.

Theo is soon filling all of Meg’s late-night cravings—and not just the pregnancy-induced ones. But can their love overcome all the obstacles that stand between them and creating a happy family?

4.5 stars
This is one of those books that took me by surprise, I took a chance with a new author when the blurb caught me and I am so glad I did. This is not your typical boy meets girl and I was so thankful for that!
After a few weeks of highly anticipated books disappointing me, this one took me by surprise. And I started to write a review after spending days not being able to get this one out of my head, I am rating it 4.5 stars!

From the moment Meg and Theo meet I was engaged in this book and I was thankful I started this book during a long car trip as it allowed me to spend hours lost in this touching story.

Theo Taylor is an Army medic wounded in war while Meg Michaels, a bookstore owner is trying to hide her unplanned pregnancy due to the circumstance around it and the fact that she walked away from a cheating ex.
I want to pause and say that Meg’s pregnancy and how this plays out in the story was so well done. How it affected each character and how it was woven throughout the story kept me glued to my kindle.

Theo quickly figures out Meg’s secret, her trying to hide her pregnancy, these two form an unlikely friendship one that was so heart warming to read. Bearing witness to friendship turn into love well that was what truly made this book so wonderful to get lost in!

I loved the relationship between Ellie and Meg, two best friends pregnant at the same time; though under very different circumstances.
As a Mom I loved some of the conversations around this:
“By becoming pregnant, I’d unsuspectingly signed up for a club that I couldn’t cancel the membership to. The rules of the club were that one must smile and nod politely while being force-fed graphic information about a billion little nasty things that would most definitely happen in the near future.”

As I mentioned Theo is a wounded Vet and although there were times this made for some very cute banter there were some memorable scenes as he struggles to re-adjust to civilian life.
Lines like this:
“The pills were taking his pain, and they were taking him with it.”

The end of this book was so well done, it tied Theo’s past to his future and truly made me believe this couple is on a path to true happy.

I adored how in the end the secret Theo was waiting to reveal to Meg as kept and the reveal of it capture my heart!

Thank you, Ms Ashby the road to happy is not always easy but when the struggles fit the characters so perfectly it means the author nailed!

I am so excited to have learned that Steve, Meg’s twin brother is getting a story.

It may be important to note that the one thing I felt like I truly wanted was to hear from Theo and since this was single female POV book that has nothing to do with the author’s writing ability simply a desire in my heart to know more about this man who the author masterfully transformed into a man I want to know more about.
So yes finger crossed that in Steve’s book we see more Theo! .. more Theo in his NEW role in life!

When You Make It Home eBook Claire Ashby Reviews

I can't decide who is the bigger idiot the heroine, Meg, or me for bothering to finish this dreck. I gave it two stars instead of one star for a couple of reasons. First, it is written without any noticeable grammatical errors, so it wasn't painful to read in that respect. Second, the first half of the book was really good. I swear it's like the second half was written by another author.

The set up is intriguing a pregnant woman and a disabled vet form a bond. Where I started disliking it was having to suffer through the increasingly improbably plot twists. Examples (SPOILERS AHEAD)

Meg and her stepmother, Nina, have a terrible relationship most of her life but after ONE DAY together, Meg not only likes and forgives Nina, but roots for her to reunite with her father.

Meg's baby daddy is something like 24 but has four children, the oldest being 8? Maybe he's 26; I didn't get their ages straight. But even so, he's successful enough to have three more children after the "oops" baby he had with the girl he left Meg for?

The reunion between Meg and her mom was surreal and absolutely unbelievable.

The fact that Hazel miraculously turns out to be Meg's grandmother felt wrong.

The whole scene with the reality stars was just so contrived it was uncomfortable.

Whatever. I'm over it. But the fact that anyone would give this book FIVE STARS??? Incredible.
When you make it home by Claire Ashby

I absolutely love this book! I did not want to put it down. While I was at work I kept wondering what was going to happen next. I have definitely found a new author to follow in Claire Ashby! I was ecstatic when offered a free copy of this book for my honest opinion. In my honest opinion, you could not go wrong in reading this book! It is outstanding!

This is a story about the budding friendship between Meg and Theo that develops into love. They met at a welcome home party her best friend Ellie, throws for Theo. He has just returned from Afghanistan where he suffered some life-altering injuries due to an IED explosion during one of his missions. He does not want anyone's pity. He is having problems adjusting to his life now, and dealing with his pain both real and in the phantom pain from his lost leg. Meg does not give pity to Theo, she tells him like it is, which he appreciates. She sees him for the hero he is, even though he does not see it himself. She does not let him get away with anything. She gives him a reason to get better.

Meg has problems of her own; she falls for men who do not stick around. Jason was her best friend and first boyfriend. He cheated on her and ended up getting the other woman pregnant. He turns his back on Meg not even saying goodbye. Bradley is her next boyfriend, after a time they decide to get married. However, during their long separations, she realizes something is definitely wrong and calls the engagement off. She runs into Jason again right after the breakup with Bradley. He tells Meg that he and his wife are having marital problems and have separated. They decide to commiserate with each other and take a trip together. Meg needs closure and asks him why he felt the need to cheat one thing leads to another…. However, he decides to go back to his wife and try again. Several weeks later Meg discover she is pregnant. Then she meets Theo…….

Ms. Ashby did a phenomenal job writing this book. She writes about some of the issues that our veterans are dealing with when they come home with after fighting overseas. This book is a roller coaster of emotional turmoil. When you read this book, you will find yourself cheering them on.

Thank you for reading my review. I hope you love this book as much as I did.
