Not recognizing the warning signs, he finds both himself and his family drawn into the tangled, complicated web of a controlling, manipulative narcissist. The situation goes from weird to worse when John finds out that he has been used and hurt by a narcissistic control freak in ways that he would never have imagined were possible. This individual not only lies to John, but also mistreats him and betrays the false front of friendship between them.
John soon realizes that his good nature and willingness to help has been exploited and taken advantage of in a strange way by this narcissist, a person whom John would never have guessed would try to control him or his family.
You will never guess who this narcissist turns out to be, and you will be both shocked and amazed at the lengths this person was willing to go to, just to control one worship leader and his family, and to keep them from escaping his hurtful, skewed world of deception, manipulation, and dishonesty.

John gives a interesting account of how he and his wife got involved in a new church. John and his wife wanted to please so much that they gave up all other things in their life. After donating more than three days a week, working days and evenings, they were made to feel like more was expected. Did I mention this was "DONATED" time. John's faith is under attack, and he questions himself. He made the right choice and I am glad that he is happy. I think if I found myself in this situation, I would have hit the road much sooner. This is one of more than I can count, books I have read about this type of personality structure. Only, this one was one I read from start to finish. It is a true portrayl of what it it is like to go to be with others that are there to find peace, and sanctuary, and end up with strife.

I think John hit the. Nail on the head. Narcissistic people are so toxic. I know how he feels. He will be in my prayers
I have been in a similar situation in a large church in Texas. The author gives practical advice on how to handle a narcissist in a church setting. He was much more professional than I would have been. It is a shame that this is happening more frequently in churches today. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is stuck in a church with a control freak. My own advice leave sooner rather than later.
This book would be of help to any one who finds themselves having to deal with church leadership that would treat them in such a controlling manner. It's hard to break free when these people use God to justify how they control you....I think if you are feeling controlled then this book will help you realize that you need to get away and how to do it and still be a Christian.
